It’s total chaos: the pigs, cows, and horses have bolted and are running all over the market square! The farmers chase after them, shouting and waving ropes, but it seems they don’t stand a chance. Goats and sheep watch it all calmly, as if this is an everyday occurrence. Amidst all the commotion, a thief seizes his chance and makes off with the loot, while St. Nicolas tries to strike a deal though whether he’s a worthy replacement for his trusty horse… that remains to be seen! Altogether, it makes for a classic Jan van Haasteren scene, full of humor, chaos, and unexpected antics.
