Mars Gremmen

Who is Mars Gremmen?

Mars Gremmen (1969) was born in Nijmegen. His first comic was ‘meneer Foutjes’, which he drew together with Kees de Boer from 1994 to 1997 for comic magazine ‘Sjors & Sjimmie’. He published comics, cartoons, illustrations and caricatures in magazines such ‘National Geographic Junior’, ‘Stripblad Eppo’, and ‘Veronica Magazine’. For his comic ‘De Ontdekkers’ he received the Stripschappenning award ‘Youth comic of the year’. In 2020 he teamed up with 75 Dutch and Flemmish cartoonists to make a graphic contribution to the free collective comic book ‘Striphelden versus Corona’, to support the local comic book stores during the pandemic. In his spare time he is also an avid bird watcher!

Mars has always wanted to draw images with a sense of humor. When he looks at the world around him he can always see a funny scene or detail he would like to put into a drawing. All of the artists at the Jan van Haasteren studio have their own characters they put into their work. If you see a little red elephant or a kingfisher, you will know this image has been drawn by Mars. The kingfisher will have to wait a little longer to be debuted, he wasn’t allowed at the hairdressers!
