Profile Marco Eisinga
Marco Eisinga was born on October 18, 1964, in Weesp. He lives in Hilversum with his two children. He is a Dutch illustrator and cartoonist.
Marco is an avid snooker player. He has been playing for nearly 30 years in the national snooker team competition at Sportcafé Hippo.
Childhood and Education
At a young age, it became clear that Marco had a talent for drawing. This was quickly recognized by his teacher at the Albert Schweitzer School, which encouraged him to further develop his skills.
After finishing school, he pursued a graphic design education at the Graphic Lyceum in Amsterdam, where he learned to master the entire design process. During this period, he not only developed his drawing skills but also gained a broad interest in new techniques and digital applications.
Career
Marco began his career at various advertising agencies, where he worked as an illustrator and later also as a specialist in image editing and 3D animation. He developed into a versatile creator who effortlessly switches between realistic images and cartoon-style artwork.
Through his colleague Saskia, who later turned out to be the daughter of Jan van Haasteren, he was introduced to the work and humour of Jan. He managed to make this distinctive style his own, which eventually led to his work for Studio Jan van Haasteren.
In 2022, he received an honorable mention for the Inktspot Prize.
Studio Jan van Haasteren
Marco was part of Studio Jan van Haasteren for several years, where he worked on puzzles such as Darts, Acrobat Circus and The Winter Games. Within the studio, he contributed to various puzzles, both by expanding existing illustrations and by creating entirely new scenes.
Around 2021, he temporarily stopped working for the studio. In January 2026, he returned and rejoined the team as the sixth illustrator within the studio.
Signature
Marco has a strong sense of perspective and composition, partly thanks to his use of 3D techniques. This helps him create complex, busy scenes that remain clear and lively. In addition, he knows how to naturally incorporate humour and detail, giving his puzzles the same playful and chaotic atmosphere that fans of Jan van Haasteren appreciate so much.
In Marco’s future puzzles, you may come across a snooker ball, a piece of chalk, or a cue.
